United Campus Ministries (UCM)

United Campus Ministries (UCM) provides a ministry of Christian hospitality by connecting students to local church families who can help provide a home away from home for our CNU students.

Our Vision
Be a bold spiritual presence on the CNU campus, providing a place, a minister and opportunities to study, worship and serve God in an atmosphere of positive, accepting Christian love.

Our Mission
The purpose of United Campus Ministries is to provide Protestant Christian ministry to the Christopher Newport University community by facilitating inter-faith dialogue and collaborating with students, faculty, staff and the community of Newport News/Hampton in order to cultivate an environment that respects religious and cultural diversity.

Our Guiding Principle
The most important things we can do in this life are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Potato Drop, stacks of bagged potatoes

Here is 45,500 pounds of potatoes for us to prepare to be taken to local churches and agencies for the hungry all over Southeastern VA.

Potato Drop is an annual event hosted by UCM at Christopher Newport!

Over 50 student volunteers help make this event possible each year, as we reach out to our wider community to those in need.

UCM serves the entire CNU community from a Mainline Protestant perspective. UCM maintains a broad-based understanding of faith and an openness to learn from those whose views differ from our own. Persons of any faith – or no faith – are valued and invited to participate in all our activities. We collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and the community to incorporate the spiritual dimension in all of life. We provide a context of acceptance, where issues and beliefs can be explored safely without fear of judgment. We promote mutual understanding and cooperation through interfaith dialogue.

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you."  (John 13:34)
